The inaugural ‘A Taste of Salsa‘ trip to Havana, Cuba, brought together over forty excited UK travellers for an unforgettable, fun-filled journey!
Departing from London Gatwick airport on November 3, 2023; following a brief stopover in Madrid the ‘A Taste of Salsa‘ travellers arrived in Havana, ready to start their eleven-day adventure. The accommodation comprised of three casa’s in Havana’s charming ‘Old Town‘, this location allowed the travellers to embrace the city’s authentic culture, and come face-to-face, experience and enjoy some of the real-world aspects of ‘Havana Life‘.
Exploring Havana in Style
The first day in Havana began with an open-top classic American car tour through the city, as the travellers journeyed in convoy, immersing themselves in its retro charm. Some opted for a walking tour of the city, while others explored via bicycle tour. The city also offers a fascinating Red Bus tour. These excursions highlight the city’s key attractions, allowing you to discover and enjoy Havana at your own pace.
Havana left everyone in awe of its vibrant energy, rich history, and stunning architecture.
Buena Vista Social Club
The evenings generated some of the most unforgettable and cherished moments. At the legendary Buena Vista Social Club, the travellers found themselves at the very heart of the action, dancing joyously alongside the talented performers and bonding deeply with the vibrant Cuban spirit that filled the air. A highlight of the night was when one of the performers captivated the audience, leaving a lasting impression on the entire group, and Derek in particular, who found himself front and centre of the nights performance.
The night was underpinned by infectious rhythms and a ‘truly’ lively atmosphere!
Evenings Filled with Music and Dance
Tropicana Cabaret show
The Tropicana Cabaret show delivered a dazzling spectacle. With front-row seats, the travellers were fully immersed in the iconic performances, fueled by Cuba’s signature rum “Havana Club“. To top it off, travelers took to the stage alongside the Tropicana Cabaret performers, wrapping up the evening marked by their time onstage and on a euphoric high.
Havana Life
So much to do, and so little time to do it.
Whether it was attending a lively party night hosted at Casa Santander Origimi; filled with dancing, dominoes, delicious food, and drinks.
Or for nature enthusiasts, a visit to Viñales Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, revealed some of the West Indies’ most dramatic landscapes. The lush tobacco fields, karst formations, and rural beauty left our travelers spellbound and energised.
Or for a more relaxing escape, the travellers visited Playa Santa Maria del Mar, just a 30-minute drive from Havana Old Town. The serene beach provided the perfect setting to unwind and savour Cuba’s coastal beauty.
Meanwhile, dance lessons at “Salsabor A Cuba” allowed travelers to embrace Cuban salsa dance culture, with skill levels ranging from beginner to expert.
Final Chapter
The journey concluded with three blissful days of ‘Rest & Relaxation’ at the exquisite five-star, all-inclusive Melia Marina hotel nestled in the idyllic shores of Varadero. Travellers had the opportunity to indulge in the luxurious amenities offered by the hotel, and take-in the stunning ocean views that created the perfect backdrop for relaxation.
Many of the adventurous travellers eagerly embarked on an exciting Catamaran cruise to the breathtaking Cayo Blanco, a pristine island paradise often referred to as a hidden gem. With the beach completely to themselves, the travellers fully embraced the moment, enjoying the soft caress of the warm sun, crystal-clear turquoise waters that sparkled under the sunlight, shimmering white sand that felt like silk beneath their feet, and the soothing sounds of tranquil music that enhanced the serene atmosphere.
Farewell to Cuba
With heavy hearts, the ‘A Taste of Salsa‘ travellers bid farewell to the vibrant streets of Havana, rhythmic beats, and warm sunshine of Cuba as they returned to the cold and often dreary UK.
